Personal statements for the candidates for SGA Secretary are posted below. Each student may vote only once and ballots are due in Margie's office by 5:00 pm, April 29, 2010.
Candidates for SGA Secretary: Amber Hurley Johnson "Hi, my name is Amber Hurley Johnson and I am running for SGA SECRETARY. As a DO/DMD student, I have completed my first year of dental school and two years of medical school, so next year I will be entering my D2 year. Because of the DO/DMD curriculum, this will be my first opportunity to run for a leadership position in the dental school. And as someone who was very involved while an undergraduate and in medical school, as the Secretary of SOAR (a medical student research organization); I have been looking forwards to also getting involved in the dental school. The benefits that I bring to the SGA office include my past and current NSU experience, my extended network, and my organizational/communication skills. First of all, this will be my fourth year at NSU and thus I know most of the dental, medical, and HPD administration. Also since I started as a member of the CDM Class of 2011, and am now a member of the class of 2013; I will know a majority of you personally, so it will make me much more accessible and approachable in order to chat with you about any issues that exist and need to be addressed. And last, but not least, I will be able to use the experience I hope to gain as SGA SECRETARY for another three years to continually benefit the dental student body. Please vote Amber Johnson for SGA secretary!!" Amber has also included a powerpoint. See attached. Ashley Millstein "Government elections are always controversial and I did not want to be the one to change that. I figured I would start with “hot” topics like healthcare reform, global warming and the importance of flossing. Just kidding…! For those of you who may not know me, my name is Ashley Millstein. I am currently a D3 and I have declared my nomination for the position of SGA Secretary. In the time I have been at Nova, I have had the opportunity to serve the students through various venues. I have been an active member of Alpha Omega and served as the Alumni Relations Chair in D1, Treasurer in D2 and currently I am the Vice President. I have also played an active role in Student Government as the Treasurer this past year for the D3 class. In deciding to run for the secretary position at the SGA level, I felt it was a leadership role which I was well-suited for. The responsibilities I would be asked to undertake include taking notes at each student government meeting, keeping track of dates of events and member attendance. As my classmates will assure you, I am a professional note taker with 3 years of past experience I truly enjoy helping people in any way possible and being elected as the SGA secretary, will allow me to continue to serve our student body."Golf Tournament Fundraiser for Jamaica Dental Mission 2010
